From the National Award winning
team of Hansal Mehta and Rajkummar Rao - who gave us the heart-wrenching Shahid - comes Citylights: a story of love and survival midst the
chaos and blinding lights that surround us.
Deepak (Rajkummar Rao) - a debt
ridden man from a small town in Rajasthan - along with his family leaves the
quiet of his rural existence to come to Mumbai, in search of a brighter future.
The dream of an improved life soon comes crashing down as he finds the city of
lights harsh and unforgiving. With no job in hand and unable to provide for his
family, Deepak’s wife Rakhee (Patralekhaa) takes up a job of a bar dancer at a
seedy restaurant. Driven by desperation and ultimately determination to
overcome the odds Deepak eventually finds a job with perils that are far beyond
the obvious. His immediate employer, Vishnu (Manav Kaul), is a street-smart and
seemingly regular man, but who unknown to Deepak, plots a devious plan that
includes Deepak and will endanger his and his familys existence. Suddenly
Deepak will find himself in a vortex of deceit and danger, struggling to keep
his family and himself safe... Laced with the soul-stirring music of Jeet Ganguly
(featuring the super hit track - Muskurane Ki...) - at heart, Citylights is a
poignant love story between a husband and wife, between a man and his family.
It is also a thriller that explores the depths of human nature - a drama about
our world, our times and the ultimate emotion that drives every relationship - love.
